Driving License – Driving Schools in Qatar
There are different requirements when it comes to driving licenses in Qatar and it depends on your situation:
- If you are not holding a valid driving license from your country, you must go to a driving school, and may be asked to take a full course (25 classes) or a half course (12 classes)
The costs involved in a driving license would approximately be:
- Eye test – 30 QR
- 40 days’ classes – around 2.300 QR
- Test fees – 50-100 QR
- Driving license fee – 250 QR
- For individuals who are planning to stay in Qatar for more than six months, it will be necessary for you to apply for a temporary or permanent Qatari driving license
- If you have a temporary license you will be able to rent a car and drive in it
- If you want to drive a privately-owned car, you should first contact the insurance company for more details
To convert a temporary license into a permanent license, you need to submit the documents as followed:
- Temporary driving license
- Two photos (If you are wearing glasses, your photo should be with glasses on)
- Copy of residence permit
- Copy of passport
- Process fee
If you already are a resident of Qatar, then you need to hold a permanent Qatari driving license
- For people who are coming from Canada and UK for work purposes, can change their home license into a Qatari license at the Medina Khalifah Traffic Department, excluded a driving test.

- Passport or ID card
- Three photos
- Your original driving license
- Eye test
- Sponsor ID (the sponsor need to sign a form and provide a letter)
- For GCC residents, the license will remain valid 3 months after arriving date to Qatar
